A brief history of Dragon Boat

Dragon Boat had its origin in china and it was believed to have been originated as far back as 2500 years ago.A Dragon was used because it was the only mythical animal of the chinese zodiac and believed to be a symbol of luck and prosperity.A Dragon Boat crew has 3 main components,The Drummers,Paddler,Steerer.The drummer controls the rhythm of the boat and ensure the strokes are synchronised.The paddlers move the boat,The first pair of paddlers ensure that the strokes are consistent and the rest of the paddlers must follow the pairs timing.The steerer controls the movement of the boat.Together this three components ensure the Dragon Boat moves.

The Dragon Boat CCA was a new CCA when i joined it.My teammates and i were the first batch of Dragon Boaters.There was no seniors to guide us so we had to build the CCA from the ground up.We had a tough time doing it but we managed to somehow do it with perseverance and hardwork.My team participated in many competition such as the DBS Marina Regatta in 2015,2017 and 2018 and the Temasek regatta organized by temasek polytechnic in 2016,2017,2018.It was a fun experience as i got to taste what a Dragon Boat Competition was.We won some medals but it was never about the medal but about the experience.It was rewarding as we outperformed schools with rich dragon-boat history.My Dragon Boat experience at CWSS is unforgettable.

I chose Dragon Boat mainly to get into shape and meet new friends.I wanted to join a cca where there was no senior as i wanted to be part of the team that builds the CCA from the ground up.What i got,was a memorable experience where i found lifelong friends sharing the same passion as me.Though the training was tough and long,we endured it together and built a CCA which people respected.I will never regret choosing Dragon Boat as my CCA at CWSS.
